 Return to Newquay?

First Class return to Newquay please!

Och, that'll be £1,000........

You walk to Kyle of Lochalsh and the 1st class return is £1,000. £10 more expensive than the first class 14 day rover.

But don't worry, the advance ticket is 'only' £561.

The journey would be:

Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness
Inverness to Crewe
Crewe to Birmingham New Street
BNS to Bristol Temple Meads
BTM to Par
Par to Newquay.

Using

First Scotrail, Crosscountry and FGW.

This is one of those non-stories.

I did a little digging on this and discovered that the standard class return ticket is still cheaper than flying (there is no comparison with the first class fare as the planes are all economy) and going by rail takes no longer than going by air. The media will make it's fuss but this is one of those situations when making a real-world comparison is very instructive.
