Forum Charter

Last Update - Please see footer area.

TTF will not tolerate any abuse directed towards any member, or known non-member, on this Forum.

1.
Images
Image file sizes should be limited to allow for rapid download over a low speed modem, about 30-40kb will be OK (The ''Transport Photography'' and "Route Planning/WIP" forums are the exception and large image files are allowed here - but no bitmaps please!).
Signature images should have dimensions no bigger than 600px wide by 100px tall.

2.
Advertising
No commercial advertising.
No advertising of transport forums or Transport related websites UNLESS the forum or website being linked is relevant to the topic being discussed. Topics started specifically to advertise another transport forum or website will be canned and may result in the member facing disciplinary action as listed in rule 11 below.
New members will not be allowed to post to external websites until they have reached 10 un-moderated posts, with the exception of transport related photographic/ picture sites.
If new members wish to post an external website link before reaching 10 posts then please contact a member of staff via PM.

3.
Spam
No spamming. I'm sure you know what it means. No posting posts which are not related to the topic / thread.

4.
Thread Usage
Contributors should try to avoid posting to threads that are more than, say, about four weeks old unless they have something significant to add.
The bringing up of old threads just to make a comment that adds nothing to the conversation, like 'I didn't know that' or 'I agree' is unwanted however.
Do try using our 'Search' facility first; especially if you are new to all this and if you think your topic may have been covered and then act accordantly.

5.
Accounts
Only ONE account (screen name) per person. Any member found to hold more than one account will possibly have both accounts closed.
Accounts that are over six months old (since last post) and that have three or less posts are periodically purged.
Staff members may hold both a Staff and an Personal account to aid administration options.

Conduct

6. Swearing is filtered, so feel free to not worry to much as to what you say! It is known that it really is not possible to catch any readable swearing, just the obvious, but please do remember our younger readers.

7. No racism, sexism, insulting or upsetting other people. This includes flaming, which will not be tolerated, and the sending of PM to Members which result in that Member having to contact the Staff Team.

8.
Text
Please, NO text language - use PROPER English! We do however allow shorts like IMHO, IIRC and SWMBO, and this list may be found via our 'Search' facility.

9.
Topics
Do try not to discuss subjects not directly related to the forum topic being answered.
Thread drift should really only be to allow identification as to a link to a new thread that has been raised to catch such drift; however let's not lose our way over this 'normal' TTF situation ;D
Discussion on topics not listed in a separate forum should be done in the General Discussion forum.

General

10. Tell everyone you know that likes the subject to sign up.

11. Any breach of the Forum Charter will result in an Administrator taking action. Action could take the form of, not but limited to, being warned, being banned for a period, permanent ban, IP address ban, the member being reported to their IP or to any other authority that has a legal right to that information.

12. Please have fun! That is what we really are here for! Do just remember we are an open Forum and that 'The World' can read what you say; just make sure you want them to hear it!

13.
Birthdays
Now that ProBoards has graced us with an automatic Birthday Boy or Girl, it is now not considered not to be impolite in NOT raising a new thread to acknowledge the event. By all means use PM; but unless you are throwing a party or buying the beer then let the public domain rest. Ta.

14.

Use of Private Message System

Forum staff, including the head administrator have no access to your PM system. If you are unhappy regarding a message you received you MUST report this to a forum staff member. Please copy the message received when you make your complaint. The rules of the forum also apply to messages sent using the PM system. IT IS STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED TO ADVERTISE or PUBLICISE ANY TRANSPORT RELATED FORUM OR WEBSITE. Any personal attack by using the PM system will not be tolerated.

15. Use of Proxy servers to connect or join TTF.

The use of Proxy servers or any attempt to mask an IP address is not allowed. However it is recognised that some members may have a genuine reason to use a Proxy server, perhaps for technical reasons. Any attempt to join TTF from a proxy server will automatically be denied. If you wish to join TTF and use a Proxy server then you must email the forum staff prior to attempting to join. The email address you can use is ttf[at]gmx.co.uk. This email address is NOT to be used for any other purpose. Current members who connect to TTF via a Proxy server MUST inform a member of the forum staff of the fact.

Forum Staff

The current Staff list may be found here.

If you have any complaints about our staff, please contact Jeremy via Private Message (PM) or e-mail.

DO NOTE that the Admins decisions are final in the event of any disagreement among Members.

it apears that rules are allowed to be broken sometimes

Unfortunatly one can not prevent anyone pushing their enter key and ''breaking a rule'' and more than often or not a post has had too many reads before something is spotted, so then one is between a rock and a hard place as what to do, especially if it is something ''not to serious''.

So it's not that they are actually allowed but that in trying to correct a problem bigger problems could arise so sometimes it is better to ''let things ride'' (in public at least).

Trouble is some people do not know when they really should put down the shovle and stop digging.

Actually, IMHO, the rules are really more guide lines in an open Forum as TTF and the key is in the ''have fun / enjoy'' bit rather than try to play policeman; thats what PM's are for and where concernes should really be first placed so a Staff Member can have the appropriate 'word in the ear' by PM and not in public for the world and their uncle to read.

And no, non of the/my spellcheckers will work now on this PC.

POSTING EXTERNAL LINKS

New members are not allowed to post to external websites until they have reached 10 un-moderated posts, with the exception of transport related photographic/ picture sites. If you wish to post an external website link before reaching 10 posts then please contact a member of staff via PM.

In accordance with forum rules, all links must not be advertising and must comply with forum rules. Additionally any links to gambling, dating or pornographic sites are not allowed.

If it becomes evident that an account is being used to post external links and not to make a contribution to the forum as a whole, the account may be suspended and investigated with the contributors account possibly closed.

The Forum Charter has been updated to reflect much of this -- Jeremy

Small re-word -"No Commercial advertising" added. This is to prevent anybody misusing the forum to advertise products or services while allowing genuine adverts for events etc to remain.

Rules have been changed to reflect misuse of the PM system and the blatant use of TTF to advertise other transport forums. I have highlighted the new or changed wording in red and will remain in this colour for approx. 2 weeks to allow quick reference to these changes.

The sharp eyed will also notice some old irrelevant posts have been deleted (but retained for posterity) to make this post simply about the charter and it's changes. I've also locked this topic, so if you wish to comment on the charter, start a new thread in the relevant section.

** July 16th ** I've removed the red text from the forum rules, slightly longer than the promised 2 weeks. I'm sure all members had the opportunity to see the changes for themselves.
