Croxley Green branch « Thread Started on Oct 20, 2009, 12:31am »
I have been down the branch a few times now, taking various people.
It is amazing how much is still intact, if some weeding was done, and a few sleepers replaced then trains could run tomorrow!
This rased an intresting question when I was down there on Sunday; if London Underground would hurry up and say they won't be extending the metropolitan line down there then if the land was bought it would be very easy to reopen.
The thoughts whilst walking down the line was to have it as a desil powered light rail sort of arangement. Using the origional stations at Watford Stadium and Watford West, and the steps and entrance at Croxley Green with 3 or 4 new stations built along the way, after building a bridge to go up and over the bypass (instead of the huge cost of lowering the bypass, and using light rail it is easier for the LRV's to go "up and over").
Although alot of work would have to be done, it could probably be re-opened easier than other railways because the track is all still there, only missing a few rail chairs and sleepers, and a few sleepers that need replacing.
There are also about 8 point motors and loads of rail sitting around, if we get points we could get a couple of sidings, there is ample space in parts...
No - Nobody can start officially planning anything til LU say they are no longer intrested.
I don't know the area - is it likely that other plans will come out of the woodwork. I'm guessing that Watford Junction and Watford Met have the London market, but is there enough homes/ businesses etc to provide a feeder link?

IMO yes, we were talking about how easy it would be to have light rail on there when we were walking down the track.
